Mixology Monday With The Leveretts - The Midori Sour

Hey, hey!

Tomorrow is St.Patrick's day. While this a cultural & religious holiday celebrated every March 17th, we know that its also a day to wear your greenest green ensemble, chug a pint of Guinness and nosh on Irish soda bread because everyone's Irish on St. Patty's Day. But today, is Mixology Monday... so you know we had to give you something special.... and green! Hopefully you have some Midori left over from our Grinch-tini, because you'll need that. This recipe makes 2 drinks. Grab your shamrocks and let's get started!

Here's what you need:

For Garnish
Honeydew 
Cantaloupe

 

For Drink
4 oz Midori
4 oz Sour Mix (see Sour Mix ingredients and steps below)
2 oz Vodka
1 oz (a splash) Sprite or 7up
1 cup crushed ice
2 High Ball Glasses

For Sour Mix
1-part Lime Juice (2oz. minimum)
1-part Lemon Juice (2oz. minimum)
1-part Granulated Sugar (4 tablespoons minimum)
1-part Water (2oz. minimum)

 

You'll also need a  Cocktail Picks, Melon Baller, Bar Spoon

Let's Start the Garnish:

  1. Grab your honeydew and cantaloupe, cut each in half and scoop out the seeds.
  2. Grab your melon baller. These typically have two sizes, one on each end. We're going to use the smallest size scoop.
  3. Let's start with the honeydew, press the melon baller firmly into the halved melon then begin to rotate to form a sphere. Make several spheres (3-4)
  4. Repeat step 3 with cantaloupe.
  5. Grab your cocktail pick and skewer your melon balls, alternating honeydew and cantaloupe (in any order you wish).
  6. Set aside for now.

Let's Make the Sour Mix:

  1. Squeeze approx 2 limes and 2 lemons (separately).
  2. In a separate container, add 4 tablespoons sugar, 2 oz lime juice, 2 oz lemon juice and 2 oz water.
  3. Stir gently. 

Note: If you happen to make more sour mix than you need for this drink, you can store the extra in the fridge.

Let's Make the Drink:

  1. In each highball glass, add 2 oz Midori, 2 oz sour mix, 1 oz Vodka
  2. Add your crushed ice (~1/2 cup)
  3. Add splash of sprite
  4. Add melon ball garnish
  5. Enjoy!
