Call us old-fashioned (pun intended) but after celebrating the new year we like to reflect about simpler times. That nostalgia inspired this weeks mixed drink choice. The Old Fashioned is one of the first cocktails first created in the late 1800s. A combination of spirits, bitters, sugar, and water this drink is not for the timid and is best enjoyed reminiscing with old friends or making memories with new ones.

This recipe makes 2 drinks!  Let's get started!

Here's what you need:

For Garnish
2 Bourbon Cherries
2 Blood Orange 2 inch x 1 inch skin shavings
2 Large Ice Cubes (or Spheres)
2 toothpicks
2 Rocks tumbler glasses
 

For Drink
4oz. Rye Whiskey
2oz. Vanilla Flavored Simple Syrup (to make your own, [10-12 minute process] see our previous post: click here)
2 Blood Orange half slices
2 Bourbon Cherries
2-4 Drops of Bitters
 

Let's Start the Garnish:

1. Peel 2 strips of blood orange skin, 2 inch x 1 inch. Also cut 2 slices of blood orange and set aside for later.
2. Wrap each cherry with the blood orange skin. 
3. Skewer wrapped cherry with toothpick and set aside.
