Mixology Monday With The Leveretts - Boozy Whipped Coffee

Hey Hey!

We hope you are well! We are doing our best over here but often find ourselves losing track of time, wondering what day it is and giving our Keurig a workout. No wonder our sleep schedule is screwed up! This week’s post was inspired from one of those cups of coffee. Caffeinated boozy drinks are not new and offer a ‘best of both worlds’ solution to the hum-drum of this new normal; caffeine to keep you motivated & alcohol to take the edge off these uncertain times. We are pairing this cocktail with our version of the current viral sensation, whipped coffee or the top half of a Dalgona Coffee. This recipe makes 2 drinks. Let's get started!


Here's what you need:

For Garnish
1/4 cup Instant Coffee
1/4 cup Sugar
1/4 cup Hot Water
1/2 oz. Kahlua 
1-2 tbsp chocolate shavings (optional)

For Drink
1.5 oz. Brandy
1.5 oz Grand Marnier 
1.5 oz Kahlua
8-10 oz Hot Coffee
1 Orange Peel
2 Heat Safe Mugs or Glasses 

You'll also need a  peeler, bar spoon and lighter.


Let's Make the Garnish:

  1. In a bowl add:

    • Instant Coffee (1/4 cup)

    • Sugar (1/4 cup)

    • Hot Water (1/4 cup)

    • Kahlua (1/2 oz)

  2. Using an electric mixer, mix until fluffy (about 2-5 minutes)

    • If you don't have an electric mixer, you can whisk by hand. This will take 8-15 minutes and your arm might fall off, but its worth it!

  3. Put a lid on your bowl and set aside for now.

    • Any extra you have left over can be stored in the fridge for a week or so. 

  4. Shave your chocolate and also set that aside.

Let's Make the Drink:

  1. Lightly burn your orange peel with a lighter. This helps bring out the orange's oils and a deeper flavor to the drink.
  2. Place the peel in a large cup or mixing glass.
  3. In the glass add:
    • Brandy (1.5 oz)
    • Grand Marnier (1.5 oz)
    • Kahlua (1.5 oz)
    • Hot Coffee (8-10 oz)
  4. Stir Lightly.
  5. Pour evenly between your two glasses, and ensure space to add your whipped coffee.
  6. Gently spoon the whipped coffee onto the top of your drink (it will float).
  7. Add your chocolate shavings.
  8. Sip Slow and Enjoy!
