Mixology Monday With The Leveretts - Bourbon Basil Smashless Smash

April 20, 2020  •  Leave a Comment

Hey Hey!

We hope you're well! Today we're keeping things nice, simple, easy breezy and we're making a smash! Smashes have been around for at least the last century. There are many different variations of smashes out there but they have a common denominator.... a spirit, a sweetener, fresh herb,  fruit/fruit juice and it’s served over ice. Perfect for the longer and warmer springtime days. We're calling it a smashless smash only because we didn't muddle any fruit here.  We hope you enjoy. As always, if you make any of our drinks, take a picture and share them with us online! This recipe makes 2 drinks. Let's get smashed!

Let's Make the Lemon Lime Syrup:

Many cocktails call for a simple syrup which is equal parts sugar and water. We've made a simple syrup before, click here. This version adds lemon and lime juice instead of vanilla.

Combine all ingredients (lemon juice, lime juice, sugar and water) in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a simmer, stirring until sugar has dissolved completely. Remove from heat and let cool. Strain into a clean container, cover and refrigerate. Keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.

Let's Make the Drink:

  1. In a shaker cup, add:
    • Several Ice Cubes
    • Basil Leaves (slap them in your hands once or twice in order to get the most flavor out)
    • Bourbon (4 oz)
    • Simple Syrup (2 oz)
    • Lemon Juice (2 oz)
  2. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
  3. Pour over  Ice into 2 rocks tumblers
  4. Add more Ice
  5. Garnish with basil leaves
  6. Enjoy!
