Hey There!
Tis the season for all things spooky and pumpkin spice related so we're hopping onboard with this pumpkin pie whiskey sour. Our pumpkin pie simple syrup is far from basic and is full of flavor... as a bonus the left over pumpkin pulp is an amazing pumpkin jam! So actually this is like 3 recipes for the price of 1!! This makes 1 drink! Let's get started!
For Garnish
1 Cinnamon Stick
1-2 Sprigs of Thyme
For Pumpkin Pie Simple Syrup
1/3 Cup Canned Pumpkin
2/3 Cup Granulated Sugar
1 Cup Water
1/4 tsp. Ground Cinnamon
1/4 tsp. Ground Ginger
1/2 tsp. Ground Clove
1 tsp. Ground Nutmeg
1 Fresh Orange Peel
For Drink
2 oz. Bourbon Whiskey (we used Basil Hayden's Bourbon)
1/4 oz. Lemon Juice
1 1/2 oz. Pumpkin Pie Syrup (Instructions Below!)
Ice (we made a large sphere using this mold)
You will also need a mixing glass, bar spoon, fine mesh strainer, 1 rocks tumbler, and a medium saucepan.
In small pot or saucepan add all ingredients:
1/3 Cup Canned Pumpkin
2/3 Cup Granulated Sugar
1 Cup Water
1/4 tsp. Ground Cinnamon
1/4 tsp. Ground Ginger
1/2 tsp. Ground Clove
1 tsp. Ground Nutmeg
1 Fresh Orange Peel
Cook on Medium heat for 7-10 min. Stirring periodically. (Your home will smell amazing!)
Strain with fine filter separating the sold pumpkin paste from the liquid.
Set aside the paste for use as a sweet pumpkin pie jam. (so good!)
Place the strained liquid back over medium heat and reduce by 1/3. (~4-7 mins.)
Let syrup cool before use.
In your mixing glass, add:
Bourbon
Lemon Juice
Pumpkin Pie Simple Syrup
Stir gently.
Add ice sphere/block to tumbler and pour your cocktail.
Garnish with cinnamon and thyme.
